Happy Saturday, everyone! Time for another round up of this week’s best reads and recipes to begin the weekend!
Today I have a 14 miler run and then Ryan, Charlie, and I are going on a 9-mile hike to Wallace Falls. What are your weekend plans?
I’ve have actually been working on a post about this for Monday, and Tina Muir says it so perfectly in her post “3 Ways to Sure You Actually Run Easy on Recovery Days.” She offers some very practical tips for determining your exact pace on easy days (hint: it’s a lot slower than you think it would be!) and describes the benefits of running easy.
Whether it’s in running, blogging, or yoga, it is far too easy to fall deep into the comparison trap. For me, it’s especially true with yoga (limited shoulder mobility). Avoid falling into the comparison trap and make yoga (or running, writing, anything) your own with these tips from Running with the Sunrise in her post The Yoga Comparison Trap.
So how do you make your yoga practice your own? Read Love Live Surf’s 12 Simple Ways to Modify Your Yoga Practice to learn how to reap the most benefits from yoga based on your goals, schedule, and abilities.
Yoga isn’t the only exercise you can do in the comfort of your own home. Try one of these 27 Bodyweight Workouts for Runners from Run to the Finish to burn calories, build muscle, and work up a sweat without leaving the house.
Beets Per Minutes guest posted this week at Run to the Finish about how to improve your body confidence. Negative self-talk can drain your energy and interfere with your goals! Try these 3 Steps to Improve Body Confidence Immediately when you need a positive pick-me-up.
Ryan and I are always on the look out for good snacks to pack for hiking (aka how keeping the marathon runger at bay) and these Grain Free Trail Mix Blondies from Cotter Crunch just look like everything I could want during a hike. Peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit, and so much yum. I’d probably follow her oat flour substitution suggestion for a gluten free (but not grain free) snack.
We always start each weekend out with high hopes of grilling, but by the time we return from several hours of hiking, I’m all about the quick and easy throw everything in the oven meal. Time to change that! These Indian Paleo Kebabs with Cashew Cream Dip from Food Faith Fitness look so delicious and easy to make.
Speaking of cashew cream: I used to think I hated cashews, until I tried them in the Nakd Bars I reviewed last month. Cashews are good! I need to try them in some recipes now, including this Creamy Spinach Sweet Potato Noodles with Cashew Sauce from Pinch of Yum.
