I’m really excited to announce that as of this week, This Runner’s Recipes blog and coaching services are part of 1% for the Planet. In my latest post on Rainier Fruit’s blog, I share some of the reasons why I enjoy backpacking. From peace and quiet to a hard workout, backpacking makes for a fun, spontaneous, and budget-friendly weekend vacation.
If you are training for a 10K or half marathon, tempo runs are one of your essential workouts. This cutdown workout I wrote for Runkeeper begins at marathon pace, cuts down to half marathon pace, and finishes at 10K pace – without any recovery in between. You have to pay close attention to pace in this workout and learn how to finish strong. The best part is that this workout only takes 30 minutes plus warm up and cool down – so you can complete it in 40 minutes or extend it to an hour or more, depending on your schedule and fitness.
Charlie and Ollie are partners-in-crime, but they are also the cutest pair of snuggle buddies.
We managed to watch the entire The Defenders mini-series in the course of three days. The first two episodes focused on exposition, but once the action picked up in episode three, we couldn’t stop watching. While not quite as outstanding as Daredevil or Jessica Jones, the show is dark, action-packed, and has twists and scenes that leave your jaw hanging.
One of the primary ingredients in home brewed beer is crushed grains such as barley. After the home brewing process is complete, you have several cups worth of spent grain. These grains are perfect for baking. I’ve made chocolate chip cookies, pancakes, and bread with it, all of which are incredibly delicious. The spent grain has a soft, chewy texture and an earthy but not overpowering flavor.
This week, I made dog biscuits with the spent grains, peanut butter, eggs, and flour. I used this recipe from Deschutes Brewery and while they took a while to bake, I now have a huge container full of natural treats. Charlie and Ollie went crazy for these treats – they dance around with excitement when I open the container.
