Life Lately and Weekly Workouts (April 27)

Hi, everyone! How was your weekend? Did anyone race this weekend?

Life Lately

Let me just say, preparing for a cross country move is stressful and time-consuming! Most of our week was focused on different preparations for the move, including preparing the apartment for showings and putting together a garage sale. Charlie does not understand the move at all, and he went into full-fledged pug panic when we took furniture out of the house to sell. Like, he actually sat on our old futon mattress to try to prevent us from moving it!

After a busy day of cleaning, moving furniture around, and the like, we treated ourselves to Mexican food. Tacos and a margarita are the perfect treat after a long day of housework and contacting movers.

Saturday we got to share dinner and plenty of wine with a close college friend who was in town, which was one of the best parts of the week. Once we move, we will only see most of our friends at weddings, so we’re enjoying every moment with them now!

Also, my sweet potato obsession is full-blown now. That and beets—I could honestly eat those everyday for lunch with a big scoop of peanut butter. Can we say comfort food?

Weekly Workouts

After taking a few days off last week off from running to recover from the Go! St. Louis Half Marathon, it felt great this week to return to a regular schedule of running. Running provides such a stress relief that I’m so grateful I have time to do it while we prepare for the move.

Life Lately April 27

Monday: 5 miles easy, 8:14/mile average pace with a 7:49 last mile, in the cold and wind before watching the Boston Marathon!
Tuesday: 5 miles easy, 8:22/mile average pace, followed by 4 x 20 sec strides (~6:00/mile pace), drills, and core work.
Wednesday: 7 miles easy on the treadmill, 1-2% incline, 8:32/mile average pace, and strength training
Thursday: 3 miles easy with Charlie, 9:12/mile average pace, followed by 4 x 20 sec strides (~6:10/mile pace) and drills
Friday: 10 miles easy, 8:19/mile average pace, with the last mile at 7:51
Saturday:Moving furniture and heavy boxes outside for the garage sale. Does this count as strength training?
Sunday: Rest

30 miles for the week

As of this week, I’m trying to transition away from running with music unless I’m on the treadmill! Way back when I started running 6 years ago, I never ran with music. I ran on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday completely sans music and listened to music for parts of my long run on Friday.

Questions of the Day?
How was your running and fitness this week?
Do you listen to music while you run?

  1. Poor charlie–it really is so confusing for pets when you are doing all of this! Good luck on getting everything put together! I run both with and without music, depending on my mood.

    1. It is confusing for him, much more than when he and I moved from Ohio to Valpo. Seeing people buy our stuff at our garage sale really unnerved him – by the end of this weekend he was more exhausted than we were. And thank you!

  2. Looks like a great week! Moving is so much fun, but yes, stressful! I hope it all goes well for you.

I have never listened to music while running–not even once! I just love to hear everything around me. It’s part of the experience for me, I guess.

    1. Thank you! I’m finding the same thing now that I’m trying to run without music – it’s so nice to hear the birds and the sounds of nature while running!

  3. Looks like a great week of workouts, especially amid all the stress!

You know, I never listened to music while running (even on long runs), but lately I find that it breaks up the monotony of running out-and-back routes on the trail. I’ve been incorporating it maybe once a week, and it’s a nice change of pace.
