Life Lately (October 27)

Hello, readers! How was your weekend?

I have one last hard workout today (4-5 mile repeats at 10K pace) and then it’s taper time! This past week was supposed to be one of my highest training volume weeks, but some unexpected circumstances cut a couple of my runs short. Before I recap my training week, let’s take a look at what else happened this past week over here at This Runner’s Recipes!

Ryan and I have a major Netflix habit, especially when it comes to TV shows. This week we’ve been powering through Revolution —has anyone else watched it? It’s all about what happens to America after all electricity and power has been out for fifteen years. It’s cheesy sometimes but I find it oddly fascinating. TV shows with supernatural, science-y, or similar elements are always our favorite—we also watch Supernatural and Dr. Who all the time.

After a long run gone bad (more about that in a bit) and a fun few hours out hiking and disc golfing, we cracked open this awesome bottle of wine my mom got us as a wedding gift, ate these cookies, and watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. I probably sound like a grandma here, but that was a perfect Saturday night. The Lord of the Ring movies are pretty much my all-time favorite movies.

Fall makeup and nail polish colors are my favorite. How pretty is this Essie shade (it’s called “the perfect cover-up”)? I love looking down at pretty nails when I’m out on a run! Excuse the messiness in the photo—I had just done my nails. That pretty teal background is my favorite moleskin notebook that I use for recipe and post ideas.

That’s plenty of ramblings for now, I’m sure. Here’s how this last week of training went:
Monday: 8 miles total with 3 x 10 minutes around 10K pace (7:45-7:50 min/mile).
Tuesday: 4 miles on the treadmill at an easy pace, followed by core and leg strength training later in the day.
Wednesday: 8 miles easy, with the last three with Ryan. I love how we’re working out a schedule to run together more, because it’s so motivating for both of us to run together.
Thursday: 25 minutes of yoga and 25 minutes of core and leg strength training.
Friday: 4.5 miles easy. I was supposed to do 7 miles, but I tripped and ripped up my knees (along with a pair of running capris) and wanted to make sure I wasn’t hurt. Better safe than sorry as race day approaches!
Saturday: I had 13 miles with the last 5 miles at goal race pace, but I ended up only doing 9 miles at an average pace of 8:35 min/mile. It was a whopping 97% humidity and the water fountain on my usual long run route had been shut off. I dressed too warm for the weather and felt overheated and dehydrated.

33 miles total for the week, instead of 40 miles. It would be easy to get upset about the missed miles, but I do this as a hobby, not a job, so I try not to be too hard on myself.

Questions of the Day:
Are you training for a race? How is it going?
What’s your current favorite nail polish color?
