Non-Racing Goals for Runners

Non-Racing Goals for Runners

For runners, virtual races have lost their luster. Running a 5K time trial around your neighborhood may have been fun in April; now, in November, you are not as motivated by another solo race. Without races and with little appeal in another virtual race, many runners feel afloat. You can pursue goals beyond virtual races! These are some goals for runners beyond racing, whether or not it’s a time of pandemic.  Skill Segment Many runners thrive on a structured, goal-oriented process. ...

How to Safely Increase Your Weekly Running Mileage

How to Safely Increase Your Weekly Running Mileage

One of the simplest ways to improve as a runner is to run more. When executed smartly, increasing your weekly running mileage will make you a stronger, faster runner. When done incorrectly, ramping up your mileage will cause overuse injuries, lead to overtraining, and mentally burn you out before you even toe the starting line of your goal race. Year in Running 2017

Year in Running 2017

According to my Strava profile, I ran 1679 miles and set three PRs in 2017. But numbers alone do not tell the story of a year of running.  2017 had its lows in running - I dealt with plantar fasciitis for a few weeks and am taking time off of running right now to recover from a diagnostic laparoscopy - but overall, this was a really good year of running. I'm linking up Courtney of Eat, Pray, Run D.C. to share the highlights of my 2017 in running.   Best ...
