One month has now passed since I recovered from COVID. My runs are gradually feeling more and more normal, although nowhere where they were before getting sick (roughly a minute per mile slower). My heart rate is coming back under control; when I first tried running after Covid, it would spike sky-high within minutes of running at a slow pace. The past two weeks were busy with family celebrations for birthdays and weddings, hence my lack of training updates. I ran three times the week ...

Weekly Workouts: Scale Back and Relax
The after-effects of Covid-19 linger far longer than the symptoms. I anticipated my HR to be elevated higher than normal this week and sure enough, it was. My aerobic fitness took what I only hope is a temporary hit. I ended up taking deliberate rest in the second half of the week, since it just seemed like I was not quite physically or mentally ready to run again. I admittely was frustrated and discouraged at how much fitness I lost to Covid-19. Just about a month ago, I ran 16 miles ...
Weekly Workouts: Covid Recovery
Last week I cautiously returned to running after having Covid-19. I first experienced symptoms in August 10, stopped running on Aug 12, and tested positive on Aug 13. My symptoms peaked Aug 14-20 and resolved on Aug 22. Last week, I patiently stuck to only walks until I felt confident symptoms would not reappear. We are all fortunate that we had only mild cases and recovered well. Several reviews and guidelines now suggest not resuming running until at least one week after the ...
Weekly Workouts: Covid-19
Last week was a rough week. My runs started out strong, but by the end, a 30-minute walk felt tiring. Ryan learned on Monday that a coworker tested positive for Covid. He had been showing symptoms of a sinus infection for a couple days. Initially, we thought nothing of it because he often gets sinus infections. He started working from home and went to get tested on Tuesday. His test results returned positive on Wednesday. I developed a minor sore throat on Monday, which felt more ...
Weekly Workouts: Keep Building
Last week's workouts continued to build up fitness. I ran 45 miles and hit my longest run in three years! In exciting news, I have a half marathon on the calendar! Our local race company has been hosting socially-distanced races since May and announced a fall marathon/half marathon in November. The race is open for local runners and features special protocols, including staggered starts, registration limits, no-contact bib pick-up, and other social distance rules. Absolutely no ...
